This was a two-year collaboration with multiple local, national, public, and private organizations to imagine a riverfront district in Northeast Los Angeles. I led the project for KCET, for which our role was to create a hub for documenting and communicating the project’s activities to hyperlocal and general audiences. This included establishing community engagement practices, capturing stories about the region’s neighborhoods and people, and soliciting local feedback for what a riverfront district could be. Projects included a multimedia portrait series of local residents, video interviews with local officials, a placemaking design competition, and a community engagement tool for collecting digital and real-life feedback.
My responsibilities included leading a production team and assigning writers and photographers to capture local stories. In addition, I co-developed practices for digital engagement. I also designed the visual identity and website for the project.
The NELA RC team included the Los Angeles Planning Department, Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, City of Los Angeles Bureau of Engineering, Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation, Workforce Investment Board, University of Southern California Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism’s Metamorphosis Project, Occidental College’s Urban Environmental Policy Institute, KCET, the L.A. River Revitalization Corporation, Tierra West Advisors, and the L.A. Conservation Corps.
